Porch music with a little Texas Red Dirt
Roots artist Lynne Hanson was born in Ottawa, Canada, hometown to a growing number of exceptional roots artists, including notable roots ambassadors Kathleen Edwards and Lynn Miles. With her second CD Eleven Months, Lynne is adding to the already strong case that “there must be something in the water”.
Lynne has been attracting critical praise since the release of her debut CD “Things I Miss” in late 2006. River By My Side won the 2006 Blues Award for the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals "Songs from the Heart" contest, while the title track was chosen as one of the best songs of 2006 by the Indie Acoustic Music Project.
Lynne was a recent Canadian regional finalist in the 2008 Mountain Stage New Song Contest, and is an official showcase artist at the 2008 FAR West Conference in Phoenix Arizona.
As the youngest in a musical family of eight children, Lynne was exposed to a diverse array of musical eras and styles as she grew up. Older siblings were quick to pawn off their babysitting duties to stacks of records and tapes, Lynne being only too happy to sit and sing along for hours with the likes of Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen. The result is a hybrid brand of eclectic roots music that Lynne can truly call her own merging her thought-provoking lyrics with heart-felt soul-country.
“A moving, emotionally well crafted succession to Lynne's priceless first endeavor "Things I Miss" – Henry Hallett, KXCI, Tucson, Arizona
From the grit of the soul-searching “Nazareth Bound” to the playful consequences of a wrong turn in “Movie Queen,” Eleven Months explores age old topics in timeless fashion. The hauntingly lonely waltz “More of the Same” is followed two songs later by the exquisite portrayal of lifelong commitment in “Dance in the Evermore,” and then moves on to the mischievous blues based “Willow Tree,” a cheeky response to the classic bluegrass tune Pretty Polly. Strong bluegrass influences leave their fingerprints all over “Cold Touch” and the CD closes out with “How Little I Sleep” about making the most of the present.
Lynne has recently signed a European distribution deal with UK based Weatherbox Limited. Stay tuned for more details regarding European dates planned for March 2009.
